International Human Rights Organization
Schubert Flint Public Affairs (SFPA) was retained by an international human rights organization in 2008 to plan and conduct a public information campaign to support its legislative agenda and increase awareness of the United Nations "International Day in Support of Victims of Torture and Survivors."
A series of postcard drops drew attention to our client's issues by introducing victims of torture and the atrocities they suffered and inviting reporters and lawmakers to learn more at an upcoming press conference. SFPA worked with a member of the State Assembly and the Governor's Office to obtain a resolution recognizing June 26 as a statewide survivors of torture day.
SFPA generated widespread media coverage of the international human rights organization and its proposed legislation, including an op-ed, which called on legislators to do more for survivors of torture. The news conference was widely covered by the media, including a two-part series on the local National Public Radio affiliate.
Finally, SFPA coordinated a reception honoring a state Senator and Congressman with the Human Rights Champion Award for recognizing the needs of survivors of torture and promoting human rights.
