Workers Compensation Action Network
California's workers' compensation problem reached crisis proportions in 2004, when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made reform of the system one of his highest priorities. The state's largest employers and employer groups retained our firm to coalesce, educate and activate employers to support substantive reform of the workers' comp system.
In close coordination with the Governor's office, Schubert Flint Public Affairs built a large coalition of large and small businesses, non-profit groups, schools and other public agencies. We coordinated a letter-writing campaign that generated over 1500 letters to lawmakers and a "Call Your Legislator Day" that flooded the Capitol with calls from constituents demanding workers' comp reform.
Meetings with key legislators were organized in their districts, involving a broad cross-section of the district, from the largest employers to the smallest non-profit group. Coalition members were also involved in earned media activities including letters to the editor, participating in editorial board meetings and being interviewed by reporters.
